Are we still “One Nation?” Doesn’t feel like it. The divisions between us have never been more stark, and they are widening. Are we truly “Under God?” An increasing number of people believe that the government (aka the State) is the ultimate authority, and should be responsible for “taking care of us”. This thinking elevates Government to the role of God, and is completely counter to the Founders’ design for the wellbeing of our Constitutional Republic.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
- John Adams, October 11, 1798
Our Moral Anchor
Without a solid standard by which to measure morality, a society drifts away from its roots. The drift starts slowly at first, but accelerates rapidly, until one day, it’s impossible to define a baseline morality at all. Attitudes like “men can be women”, “marriage and raising a family is oppressive to women”, “mathematics is racist”, and “setting limits for your children is tyrannical” are all familiar examples. Our Founders acknowledged the potential for this drift, and anchored morality squarely to the Judeo-Christian values found in the Bible, while being adamant that there could be no National religion mandated by government.
Current Times Accurately Predicted Long Ago
Back in the 8th century BC, Old Testament prophet Isaiah warned of the societal moral drift that we all can plainly see today. Through “The Song of the Vinyard” in Isaiah Chapter 5, Isaiah specified a remarkably durable framework for analyzing the decay and structural collapse of civilizations. This framework can be accurately recognized in previous fallen civilizations such as the Roman empire, and plainly seen in our current day. These “Woes” as Isaiah called them, follow a specific pattern:
Mass consolidation of property by an elite few. Once primarily a vehicle for individual family stability and local community building, individual property ownership is replaced by mass aggregation by large corporations and the wealthy elite.
Hedonism, Escapism, and Erosion of Civic Vigilance. Dulling of the mind through pleasurable diversions. Can be seen in the opioid crisis, the pervasive digital addiction facilitated by social media, and deviant sexual practices.
The "Hard Work" of Iniquity. Working hard to propagate evil, enticing others to participate. Illustrated by the rise in mockery of sacred traditions and the intellectual "gaslighting" of those who hold to objective truth.
Inversion of Moral Reality. Calling good, evil, and evil good. Some examples of inverted moral concepts include: Thinking men can’t be women is bigotry; Abortion is considered healthcare; Holding to absolute truth is intolerant dogma.
Believing Technology and one’s own intellect is superior to divine design. Elevating man as god as the tech elite seek to redesign humanity through genetic engineering and artificial intelligence.
Institutionalized Corruption and the Erosion of Judicial Integrity. Identified by modern day “Lawfare”, and activist judges legislating from the bench.
Does any of the above sound familiar? We need to heed Isaiah’s warning.
